About

I’m Gaynor, a fabric obsessive and I want to share my obsession with you!

After a 40 year career working in the Care and Charity sector, I’m finally pursuing my utopia; the joy that is the world of textiles.

I’ve been in love with fabric since the age of five, when I first encountered the magnificent velvet drapes in my aunt’s house. Trimmed with multi coloured tassel fringe they literally blew my mind. Fabric and trimmings have been an adrenalin rush sensation for me ever since.

3 years ago, I got the sewing bug, big time! As a result, I decided to make cushions that brought me absolute joy when I looked at them.

The Opulent Cushion was born, OTT cushions for people just like me. Working from home in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside and doing something I loved was a dream come true.

But It wasn't a success, whilst lots of people loved the cushions, very few wanted to buy them. What I realised, was that people enjoyed creating and making their own versions - which is exactly what I was doing. In addition to owning something beautiful, there's the satisfaction and pride that comes from doing it yourself.

With a ton of fabric and trimming on my hands, it was time to let other people do what I had enjoyed doing - make their own 🪡🧵

English Country Fabric

I started English Country Fabric to sell my excess textiles, but it very quickly became apparent that people loved my choice of fabrics and trimmings. As the business developed, so did the need for more space. Today, I run my business from a workshop in Kington, not far from home. I have an ideal space to work in, lots of storage and designated photography and packing areas.

As a one woman business, I do everything! the sourcing and buying, ironing, photography, website and Instagram uploads, Pinterest, packing and posting and day to day admin and accounts.

I love it!

What makes my day more than anything is when a customer messages me to say they've received their order and they're delighted with it ☺️

Please browse through the site, scroll through the pages of fabrics and trimmings. Check out the Blog, there are some colourful short stories in there: Velvet Love, A Little Christmas Creativity, Vintage Fabric Inspiration, Afraid of Colour?, The Wow Factor of Trimmings and more.

Above all, I hope this little trip into my world of fabric gets you inspired
