Tassels & Tiebacks

Tassels & Tiebacks

There are several things in life I can't resist.....
a second hand bookshop (much more interesting than a high street chain)
paddling in the sea (not in winter!), making footprints in virgin snow, a visit to a walled garden, wine, chocolate and TASSELS!
It's a close run thing, but if you gave me a choice between a box of chocolates and an opulent, vibrant, silky, sumptuous, ornate tassel - I'd take the tassel every time  😄
I mean just look at these, I'm getting an adrenaline rush just looking at the photo!
🎀
I am a little obsessed with tassels, tiebacks, key tassels, cushion tassels, chair tassels, yes , there is such a thing👇

I am by no means an expert on tassels or Passementerie (decorative trimming)
I'm simply a lover of it. I just want to share my enthusiasm with you and make you aware of the beauty and versatility of tassels.
Everywhere I go to buy stock for my fabric business, I ask "Have you got any tassels or trimming" the answer is often "No, people don't go in for that kind of thing anymore, its old fashioned"
It makes my heart sink hearing that 😞
And, I have to admit that it's getting harder to find beautiful tassels and tiebacks.
However, lets look on the bright side, fashion goes in circles, some day soon we're all going to be wearing jackets with padded shoulders (Joan Collins in Dynasty! 😲) and our homes will be adorned with swags, pelmets and tassels! 🥳 🥳🥳
In the meantime, feast your eyes on these
A pair of Prussian Blue, Green & Gold, chair tassels
What a delicious colour combination! I have a pair in my lounge, mine are just hanging from my curtain pole, for decoration 👌

Tiebacks

Well, what is there to say really?
How could you not have a pair of tiebacks this fabulous to adorn your curtains?
🎀
If OTT is not your style, then perhaps these are more to your liking?
Plain & Simple
But, very beautiful 💜
Set against this relatively neutral fabric, the dark lilac of these tiebacks reflect against the fabric and bring it to life.
That pretty much sums up the point of Tassels and Tiebacks - they embellish whatever you set them against and bring colour schemes to life.
You could say they're the cherry on the cake!
🎀
As I've already said, tassels don't have to be OTT to look amazing.
This cushion I made, had so much going on with the two fabrics and the pom pom trim that it just needed a plain tassel to set it off .
🎀
If your background fabric is busy, a one colour tassel is often the best solution

Tassels for all tastes

Don't think that tassels and tiebacks are purely for chintzy or country house style interiors.
Contemporary Interiors are just as suited to the right tassel!
However, I have to come clean here!
I am unashamedly a fan of the OTT style 🎀
I would have been completely at home in 17th Century France ( I'm referring to the Palace of Versailles, not the filthy streets of Paris 😲)
So I'm going to finish with a large dollop of OTT!
